Green Building with Steel: Framing With Steel Studs

This 3-hour interactive online course examines Green Building in relation to the use of steel as a primary structural building material, its inherently recyclable nature, and its efficiency of assembly. Particular focus is framing with steel studs using Cold Formed Steel (CFS) and the various methods of building an exterior and interior frame.

The Participant will be able to:

  • List the advantages of Cold Formed Steel (CFS) framing
  • Recognize typical cold-formed steel sections for framing
  • Understand common steel framing terms
  • List the basic steel framing components
  • Understand the design of a steel house wit CFS framing
  • Explain how to build an interior non-structural wall
  • Explain load bearing and curtain wall applications
  • Describe residential applications for steel materials
  • Understand proper steel construction methods and details of assembly
  • Apply proper insulation on steel structures
  • Use the proper tools, screws and fasteners for steel framing
  • Address how to approach pressure treated wood and steel framing
